After years of being called “ma’am” by well-meaning customer service providers, medical providers and most consumer facing personnel, I came up with the idea of leaving a “Tip Card,” along with the usual monetary tip, to educate wait staff and other customer-facing personnel.
These folks weren’t trying to be offensive; they just were trying to be polite. So, I set out to help them understand, in a friendly, non-threatening way, how gender nonbinary people prefer to be addressed.
