A non-profit company based in Florida, Empath Health, has sought to eliminate impediments to care for aging LGBTQ+ members. Empath has done this by securing credentials from SAGE, an advocacy group dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT elders. The program has trained almost 90,000 workers to date. The company created Empath Partners in Care (EPIC) primarily focused on the testing and management of HIV and also serving aging members of the LGBT community.
Inclusivity, for Empath, means working against bias and that is most important. If discrimination rears it’s ugly head, they work to reinforce the organization’s mission and bring the person back full-circle.
