On Thursday, June 17, 2021, the President signed into law: S. 475, the “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act,” which designates Juneteenth National Independence Day as a legal public holiday. Juneteenth has been celebrated by Black Americans for generations especially those in Texas, California and other parts of the country. So many are unaware of the importance of this event as well as the history of Black people in this country. This course will provide an overview that will hopefully spur your interest to learn more and conduct more research.
