Purple Heart Day

Purple Heart Day is on August 7th, 2022. Established as an official day of recognition in 2014, the Purple Heart was actually created by George Washington in 1782.

At the time, it was called the Badge of Merit and was designed to honor enlisted and deserving people. It wasn’t until 1932 that the merit was relaunched as the Purple Heart recognizing commendable action and those that were wounded in combat.

In 1944, the policy was slightly tweaked again to specifically honor those who have been wounded or died.

There are approximately 1.8 million recipients of the Purple Heart.

Is your company doing anything to honor or recognize those with a Purple Heart? How are you reflecting on the day?

We believe it’s important to recognize our active military officers and our veterans. It’s important organizations know how how to recognize them as well.
